I love to write. While living in Austin, I attended a meetup for writers. I was able to finish and self publish my first book due to committing to showing up write every week for an hour. We will meet at a quiet coffee shop for 90 minutes. The first half hour will consist of talking about our writing and any helpful info about publishing and seminars. The last hour is writing uninterrupted. A lot can get accomplished in an hour. I did it once and I plan to use this method for my second book. Thi …
"Don't tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass. " ~Anton Chekhov There are a lot of writing groups that get together to write and read work. This is not one of those groups. This group is inspired by Dorothea Brande's classic bestselling reference book "Becoming A Writer" that focuses on removing the unconscious impediments that lead us would-be writers to falsely believe that writers are born, and not made. It's about acting, feeling and thinking like a writer to …

Hi! I'm brand-new to San Francisco and after trying out three writing groups, I decided that it might be fun to start one of my own. A bit about me: I am a graduate student in marriage and family therapy. I write mostly poetry, but also dabble in fiction. When I was living in New Hampshire, I was a member of a group called Feeding the Writer, and I found that it's format really worked well. I was thinking it might be fun to try it out here in SF, with some modifications based on the preferences …

Are you a writer looking for a writing group to join in the East Bay? We are a small group of experienced writers in various stages of writing/revising books and/or short stories spanning various genres. We share our pieces a few days ahead of our biwkly mtgs and when we meet, we focus on one piece at a time with each person providing feedback. Friendly, casual atmosphere. Our group is pretty small and that has been great, but conflicting work schedules prevent us all from contributing pieces/at …

This group is for all the writers who are in the "trying to be" stage of reaching the official status of "writers." Writing can be for a book, blog, magazine article, op-ed in newspaper, etc. Let's get together and write, critique each other's works, discuss writing styles, the challenges of being a writer, and the joys.
The Writers Cafe, which started in the fall of 2010, has been going strong for over a year and a half now. I am currently hoping to add two members to the group. If you are interested, join up and send me an email. I'll contact you and give you an email address where you can send a writing sample -- either a chapter of your novel or a short story. Please don't be intimidated by this request. It's not a about judging whether you're "good enough," but rather, we have a great group of writers and I …

Who should write fiction? Everyone. Why? Because fiction writing is fun and challenging, and rewarding intellectually and aesthetically, among other ways; further it enhances appreciation of all the fictional arts, and art generally, and is a wonderful interest to share with others. The plan for this group: members will have the opportunity to: -Learn and discuss concepts of fiction -Participate in group short fiction writing challenges -Get feedback on their writing -Give feedback to others o …
The Writers Cafe is off to a great start. We're been meeting for two and a half months now. The group is currently full, however if you are interested, join up and send me an email. I'll contact you and give you an email address where you can send a writing sample -- either a chapter of your novel or a short story. If what you're doing is in sync with the group I'll put you on the waiting list and let you know where things are at with the group. The current group is excellent. All of the writer …

Become a Successful Suspense Novelist! It was a dark and stormy night, and I decided it was the perfect setting for starting a writer's Meetup group. Writing what? Thriller and suspense, of course! We meet to help each other write better, market better, and sell better--all the way up to best seller. NOTE: This isn't a critique group though you are encouraged to join one. We won't be reading each other's writing. We will instead be teaching and learning from each other skills and techniques to i …
I am an internationally published poet, author, publisher, writing coach and meditation teacher. For years I have taught writing workshops and classes throughout the Bay Area as well as volunteered at Spirit Rock Meditation Center teaching in the Family and Teen Program, and more recently have been teaching a class at Book Passage called "The Mindful Writer." This meetup is an opportunity for me to merge my two primary practices of writing and mindfulness, and open up these teachings to a wider …

By the end of 2012 I'm supposed to graduate from Cal with a PhD. That is, if I can write the thousands of words I need to put down on paper! This group is for other grad students who need peer support for their writing. My goal for the group is to set aside two hour sessions a couple of times per week where we set a manageable goal for that session, and complete it. Each meetup will begin with a 15 minute "buffer period" where we can grab coffee, catch up and state our goals for the 90 minutes. …

The central point of this group is to explore womanhood through writing. I'm a twenty-four year old female and I recently wrote out my life story in a very truthful, raw way. It was an incredibly healing practice for me. Much of my writing centered on moving through body hatred and feelings of inadequacy as a woman. I feel empowered now and I'd like to share this practice with other women. Together we'll touch on common themes in our lives that surround body and finding our voice in our society. …

Taking two play-writing classes at the Berkeley Rep has given me an appreciation for the group dynamic that seems to go so well with writing plays. Hearing others read my words and being exposed to the ideas others have had has been a rewarding and enriching experience. This group will be a forum for folks to hone their craft, share ideas, and have their works read by sympathetic writers. If you have a finished piece, a work in progress, a concept for a play or are looking for an idea, join us a …
